Ever feel like you have nothing to wear? Does your closet make sense? Do you buy things on a whim and then feel like you have no “go to” outfit? The answer to all three questions for me, is “Ugh. Yes!”
I have tried it all: turning my hangers backwards and in three months, donating everything that doesn’t have a hanger turned the opposite way (meaning I haven’t worn it). I have tried the 33 item challenge so popular on the internet. (That really didn’t work for me). I have loads of outfit “storyboards” pinned to Pinterest—things I want to put together—and don’t. There is a relatively new “capsule wardrobe” idea that is pretty popular on the Internet, but even that “get your 33 item basics and work with them,” idea has flopped for me. The fact of the matter is this: I LOVE a new outfit and I can think of a million and one reasons to purchase one any given day.
But lately I have found myself looking at the items LTD 7 puts on our twice weekly sales and studying the items that are now on Shoptiques (Go There If You Haven’t Yet) and it dawned on me that so many of the items we sell are as versatile, and comfortable and functional as we all want our ideal wardrobe to be. It just takes a little ingenuity and planning. Let me share with you just one example, compliments of our charming and beautiful Alexis.
Let’s say you purchased the white shirt recently on Shoptiques. This one:
Gorgeous, isn’t it? And if you think even a little like me, you probably would rationalize the purchase by saying to yourself: “A white shirt goes with everything.” And you would be correct. A white shirt does go with everything. But here is the kicker: Do you wear it with everything? Or does it always get paired with jeans on errand days?
I am the first to admit; I get stuck in ruts and wear the same thing for the same reasons. But let me try to show you something fun, using Alexis as our model that you can do with a simple white shirt that will stretch your wardrobe in new and exciting ways.
What if you take that white shirt and change it up? What if you wear it with white Capri pants and break up the monochromatic look with a stylish jean jacket (or any jacket, really) You get a whole new look! Alexis is even wearing the same jewelry with this second outfit, but you would never even notice. The look is stylish, fresh and perfect for spring and summer!
Let’s take things a step further. How about we take the same white shirt you were lucky to score on Shoptique and pair it with the new black and white pants you picked up at LTD 7. Are you feeling a party vibe here? Are you beginning to see how many ways a simple white shirt can spark life into a wardrobe? Alexis changed out her necklace to bring a pop of black into her upper body and the look is amazing and so stylish.
Let’s do one more. LOOK at this divine combination with a simple long Maxi black skirt and a change of jewelry! I am totally loving this! Talk about day into evening wear. The look is perfect for any dinner out, the movies, a play, or lounging around the house with a best friend. Think of the costume jewelry in your dresser that would pop on a simple, yet refined and classic look like this.
I think you are beginning to get the idea. Here is Alexis in a more summery look…wearing the same white shirt, now paired with a light lacy vest. Oh, don’t you love this look? I can practically smell the B-B-Que now.
That’s how you do it, folks. One shirt…five ways to Sunday! (Six ways if you count the short black skirt on the Shoptique model.)
We at LTD 7 will be happy to work with what you already own. Bring your white shirt or jacket or new stylish pants in to the store and ask for ideas on ways to wear it. If you love it, we do too and we want to do anything we can to add to your versatility in fashion and that means using what you have, or have just bought and creating fun, fashionable new ways to wear it.
Look in your closet this week and stop in to LTD 7 for a pick-me-up item or two to compliment it, change it up and add to your sense of style and versatility. Show me what you come up with; I would love to see!
