Frying Pans & Lipstick

emp 4

Empower means “give power or authority to.” When you educate children and believe in them, you empower those kids to go after their dreams.

Empower might seem like a new word, but it’s been around since the 17th century. Today, empower often refers to helping someone realize their abilities and potential, or their dreams, perhaps for the first time. For example, in the 1960s, when women felt like second-class citizens, the women’s movement empowered them to stand up and demand their equal rights.

a combination of circumstances favorable for the purpose;

a good chance or occasion, as to advance oneself

I have had many opportunities to be empowered along the path I have taken in retail over many years. My mentors and the people who have presented me with unlimited opportunities along the way have such a special place in my heart. There is no way to ever thank those who have graced my life with such avenues for the expression of my dreams. The only way I can do them justice is to pay it forward and try to be the example they were to me.

Today is Valentine’s Day. My heart is full of love and gratitude for those who have graced my path all along the way to LTD 7 and LTD 7.2 and now beyond as we prepare to open Grandma’s Bait.

Having Susan and Erin Blanton of Pufferbellies, Staunton, join us as a vendor at Grandma’s Bait is truly a match made in Heaven! We go together like baseball and apple pie; like biscuits and gravy; and…like frying pans and lipstick.

+ copy

Wait! Frying pans and lipstick? What in the world am I thinking?

I can explain.

Grandma’s Bait is not a toy store and Pufferbellies is not a children’s clothing store. We are like frying pans and lipstick-seperate but necessary for the buyers that are seeking children’s apparel, toys & gifts. We are keeping it in line with the vision Shirley and Bob had 34 years ago. Why change what works?  Pufferbellies is the expert when it comes to choosing the best in toys & books and novelities.  It is a win-win for you, and it is a win-win for us. In retail this pairing of two seperate entities is known as a vendor relationship, or loosely fashioned, a store-within-a-store concept. Think about Best Buy. They have representatives from phone companies inside their brick and mortar stores. They recognize the opportunity to allow customers to meet with cell phone representatives and set up their phones-in house. Similiar examples are the makeup counters in Macy’s that sell lipstick and the housewares department of the same store, where you can purchase a frying pan…everything is under one roof. The retailer wins as they can offer more; the customer wins as they are able to shop under one roof. The town’s economy wins as small businesses grow.

My successful relationships with my vendors at LTD 7.1 and LTD 7.2 brought me, in perfect timing and syncronicity, to Pufferbellies. We are women empowering women. We are like Valentine’s Day and candy. We are the yin to each other’s yang and we are overjoyed to be opeing the doors to Grandma’s Bait in March.

Pufferbellies will grow. LTD is growing. They will expand. We will expand. They will keep their flagship store, just as I will always have both LTD 7 stores. And our new “baby,” Grandma’s Bait, will grow and expand right alongside Pufferbellies. Two hands making one heart.

It’s a match made in Heaven! It’s small business supporting small business. It is women empowering women. It is a venture that allows each of us to play to our strengths and to your needs.

Have a wonderful Valentine’s Day! Wishing you bushels of love and happiness and the chance along the way to realize your dreams.

Living the Dream,

A Picture Perfect Day!

On behalf of LTD 7, our guest vendors, and Vector Industries,  we want to thank our loyal customers and all of our new customers for coming out yesterday to our Fall Market. We enjoyed seeing each and every one of you and we hope you had a wonderful time with us!

While it was a bit nippy early on, it turned into a picture perfect day, and my dad was behind his camera, unbeknownst to me, shooting the sights.  I always LOVE his candid shots and he did not disappoint. Thanks, Dad!

Here is what he saw…on a picture perfect LTD 7 Fall Market Day, 2015.

I hope you enjoy looking at them!

Living the Dream,

scarf 12

I love scarves. I wear them all the time! I know many of you like them too. Ltd 7 places HUGE orders for scarves…frequently. The trending scarf right now is the infinity scarf. It comes in animal prints, chevron and, of course, solids. But did you know that scarves have been around since antiquity? The internet is chock full of tips for the scarf collector. Come to think of it, that could be our next “perfect reason” to buy a new scarf. We are collectors!

scarf 17

There are libraries full books on tips and ideas of what scarves to collect; there are books on scarves in history and of course there are scads of articles and publications about how to tie a scarf on the Internet. Just type in the word “scarf” and you will see what I mean.

scarf 7 scarf 11 scarf 9 scarf 8

A scarf, according Wikipedia, also known as a Kremer, muffler or neck-wrap, is a piece of fabric worn around the neck, or near the head or around the waist for warmth, cleanliness, fashion or religious reasons. They can come in a variety of different colors.

Ancient Rome is one of the many origins of the scarf, where the garment was used to keep clean rather than warm. It was called the sudarium, which translates from Latin as “sweat cloth“, and was used to wipe the sweat from the neck and face in hot weather. They were originally worn by men around their neck or tied to their belt. Soon women started using the scarves, which were made of cloth and not made of wool, pashmina, or silk, and ever since the scarf has been fashionable among women.

Historians believe that during the reign of the Chinese Emperor Cheng, scarves made of cloth were used to identify officers or the rank of Chinese warriors. In later times scarves were also worn by soldiers of all ranks in Croatia around the 17th century. The only difference in the soldiers’ scarves that designated a difference in rank was that the officers had silk scarves whilst the other ranks were issued with cotton scarves. The men’s scarves were sometimes referred to as “cravats” (from the French cravate, meaning “Croat”), and were the precursor of the necktie.

But even with this veritable library of materials in today’s blog, (I hope you like history) I am constantly looking for photos and new ways to tie them and clever ways to wear scarves. Are you searching for that new way to “tie one on?” Fashion repeats itself every decade or so; don’t forget to look at older styles, like these:

scarf 6

Whether you are looking for style, warmth, or maybe a little of both, you can find scarves of all kinds, from designer labels to handmade varieties. They can be worn as outerwear or as accessories to complement a particular outfit. Luxurious silk scarves are especially popular as fashion accessories. Aside from silk, scarves are available in many other fabrics and textures, including cotton, wool, rayon, polyester and poly-blends, and even sheer fabrics, which are usually used for headscarves. If you are choosing scarves for outerwear, look for styles that provide thickness and warmth. These are usually closely knit and somewhat more bulky than the dressy varieties. You can select from lush materials such as angora to complement your coat and make a statement, or you can choose a more casual scarf, such as one made from flannel or fleece. There are extra long scarves that can be wrapped around the neck two or three times, while shorter styles are often tucked into the opening of the coat or jacket to keep the neck and upper chest warm.

Selections also include a large variety of fun, whimsical options. You might choose a striped design, trademark characters, or scarves made from shimmering, sparkly yarn. Some have fringe along the ends while others have clean lines, and some are reversible or two-sided so you can create two different looks with one scarf. Hooded varieties are very cute and also provide maximum warmth.

scarf 5

Both fashion and outerwear scarves make great winter accessories and they also make terrific gifts. “IT” is coming folks…faster than you think: gift-giving season is just around the corner. LTD 7 will have plenty of scarves this holiday season and we will even gift wrap your purchases for free. Who on your list might just love a new scarf?

That’s all for this week, folks. Hope to see you soon at one, or both of our LTD 7 locations.

Be sure to wear your favorite “sudarium.”

fall 12

Are you ready for Fall? I think I am! I have pallets upon pallets of new merchandise just waiting to be put out on the sales floor and I am receiving new merchandise daily. That can only mean one thing: we are headed into autumn.

fall 3

I announced on Facebook that LTD 7 will be hosting our third Fall Market this year.

The date for our Annual Outdoor Market is Saturday, October 17th, 2015 from 10am to 4 pm. Please put this date on your calendar.

fall 3fall 4

We are accepting Vendors now for the Market. Email with any interest! Let us know what you are all about and send us pictures too. We look forward to meeting you or reconnecting with you! Please keep in mind, we do not accept any “direct sell” companies as vendors. This is a vintage market with art, antiques, quality handmade, repurposed, furniture, and jewelry. Thank you for your understanding.

fall 6

In addition to ten outdoor visiting vendors, LTD 7 will also bring you all of our amazing contracted vendors, along with music, food, and fun for all.

fall 5

During our markets we love to help out our community! This year we will be asking for suggestions and accepting applications for a charity that will directly benefit from our sales. 10% of all sales inside LTD 7 will go to this organization. We will also have donation jars and “Round up your purchase total” and this money will go to them as well. In advance, we thank you for giving generously.

Not only are we going to have great vendors, food, music and activities but Inside LTD 7 you will also find your favorite year round vendors.
Terry Watson – Photography, Wendi True-Photography, Pet gifts, PooPourri and more, Bridget of Gone Loopy and her wonderful silver creations, Carolyn of Once Again and Paint Couture, along with all of LTD 7’s merchandise. With every purchase, you can “Spin the Wheel” to see what you can win or how much discount you get off your purchase! Enter our drawings for great gifts from our vendors, and special sales throughout the store! Also be on the lookout for many contests and ways to win vouchers for the Market as the date draws near.

Send us your email for an application to be an exhibitor, musician or the non-profit recipient of 10% of profits! Please pass this on if you know of anyone that would be a perfect fit! Thank you in advance!

fall 11

While it is hard to say goodbye to summer, we hope LTD 7 can brighten up the Fall with brand new merchandise and our Fall Market, in addition to our classes and second store. Have you visited us at our second location yet? Everyone has been so kind with their welcome and comments. If you haven’t been, make sure to stop by and check us out.

I will see you soon. I am in and out of both stores all day. If you have questions or need to talk to me, please email me at: and I will get back to you. Remember, October 17th is our Fall Market. Put it on your calendar now so you won’t miss it.

Dream a little dream as autumn nears. I will see you soon.

Full Circle Moments

We shall not cease from exploration and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time. T S Elliot

image (69)

“Full circle moments happen when we revisit a situation or circumstance in our present life that occurred in our past. The event of the second experience creates a circle in which we view both perspectives—past and present—simultaneously. Viewing the “there and then” and the “here and now—seeing their relationship and connection completes the circle and creates a richer and fuller experience.”

I posted on Facebook last week that I had experienced a full circle moment with LTD 7 and the post was well received. I wanted to take this opportunity to share with you again my thanks for your well wishes and memories. For those of you who are wondering what in the world I am talking about, I have some awesome news:

LTD 7 is opening a second store!

This new store comes on the heels of LTD 7’s  two year anniversary, but the full circle moment started over twenty years ago. I was hired by Terry and Ginger LeMasurier, the owners of The Virginia Made Shop as the General Manager of their two locations. Little did I know this would be the stepping off point for my first independent retail store, Dancin’ Feet, in 2002.

Vamade2_medium DSC_0121

Twenty years passed and now…guess what? LTD 7 will be neighbors with The Virginia Made Shop when we open LTD 7’s second location in June. I cannot be more excited!

sign.pages copy

If you would have told me way back when that this was how my full circle moment would come to pass, I would have chuckled and said, “No way!” But life has a way of grabbing us by the bootstraps and fashioning our hopes and dreams into passageways and opportunities that we cannot even dream about. Patty Davis once said, “If you hang around this earth long enough, you really see how things come full circle.” I would have to agree.

image (30)

I cannot say enough about Terry and Ginger or their shop featuring Virginia gifts, souvenirs, Virginia Peanuts, honey and so much more! They recently celebrated their 30 year anniversary as a small business in Staunton. I know you will support them as LTD 7 becomes their business neighbor as well as the gold and silver on our other side. The Virginia Made Shop’s Facebook page  can be visited here.  Let’s show them some LTD 7 love! Please like and share!

We will be launching our second location in June. Stay tuned to Loyal to LTD 7 and LTD 7’s Facebook pages for announcements.

What are some full circle moments that you have had in your business or personal life? Did they catch you by surprise? Would you have expected them? I would love to know!

Living the Dream,

The Wheels on the Bus

This is the bus we are taking….hope you can go! (just kidding)

I just love LTD 7’s customers…every one of you. I was sitting in my office a few days ago and I had an idea. I wasn’t sure it would fly, so I tossed it out on Facebook for you to give me some feedback and the response was overwhelmingly positive. Thank you for always being a post away and for giving me your opinions and thoughts. It helps me tremendously to make LTD 7 “ours.”

For those of you who missed the post I am referring to, I thought that maybe—just maybe—a bus trip to Ohio this fall to shop the Country Living Fair would be SO much fun. LTD 7 would organize the trip…the transportation, the tickets, the hotel and a meal or two for all of us!  All you would have to do is show up! We would even arrange transportation for anything you purchase! Is that a fun idea or what?

I am still looking into the idea and working with some people to see if we can pull this off, so bear with me. If for some reason we can’t get a tour together this fall, we can always look into other venues and locations at a future date. If you want to be notified as we make progress and to all the details of the trip…please send your email to

“Presented by Country Living Magazine, the event offers visitors the opportunity to fully experience the “Country Living” lifestyle and meet the editors of Country Living in a charming 19th century village setting. A great big show and sale of antiques, vintage, “Made in America” crafts, art, furniture, home decor, handcrafted clothing and jewelry and so much more. Meet the editors of Country Living Magazine and their guests, attend seminars and how-to’s, see artisan demonstrations, shop the Harvest & Gourmet Market, and gather ideas and inspiration.”

You’re going right?

There are great shopping options, with over 200 booths of antiques, vintage, upcycled and hand-crafted goods. Additional features include Country Living’s kitchen and main stages with cooking demos, and presentations by the editors and their guests. Plus, book signings and crafting and how-to demonstrations throughout the fair.

Live Music will be performed by the Blue Water Ramblers and Thomas Wesley Stern.

Let me know in the comments what you think. I do think I have enough interest to at least bring you more information and at this point, the pickins’ look very good indeed! Check out the list of vendors I have included below the blog post! Mind you—you are going to have to scroll a looooong time to get to the bottom of this awesome list!  What do you say we start planning and dreaming and working on the details to make LTD 7’s best shopping tour of 2015 a reality? I sense a tradition in the making…don’t you?

I will keep you posted! Thanks for checking in and for always sharing your thoughts with me! I couldn’t do all this dreaming without you!

Don’t forget to scroll through the vendor list and have a stupendous week! Stop in soon! The coffee is on us!
